Education Session: Women & Wellness in the Workplace

This engaging 40-minute presentation will explore what it means to be a woman in today’s workforce. The discussion will highlight the unique challenges women encounter at various stages of life and share practical tools for maintaining and strengthening both physical and mental health. Attendees will walk away with strategies to better support themselves and their colleagues, followed by ample time for Q&A.

The session will be led by Katie Powell, Wellbeing Consultant at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. With over 15 years of experience in health education and workplace wellness, Ms. Powell is driven by a deep passion and commitment to helping others thrive. She aims to inspire and support individuals from all walks of life in achieving their health goals. In her role, Ms. Powell designs, implements, and enhances comprehensive wellness initiatives that promote the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of CareFirst groups and clients. Her work empowers individuals to lead healthier lives and aligns with CareFirst’s mission of advancing affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare.

Ms. Powell holds multiple professional certifications, including Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified Worksite Wellness Specialist (CWWS), and Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP). She earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Kaplan University and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education from Salisbury University.

Joining her is Dr. Michael R. Udwin, MD, FACOG, Medical Director of Provider Collaboration and Network Transformation at CareFirst. A board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Udwin is a nationally recognized physician executive specializing in population health and value-based care delivery. His background combines clinical insight with data-driven solutions to improve health outcomes across diverse populations.

Together, Ms. Powell and Dr. Udwin will share their expertise on how women can thrive in the workplace while organizations foster healthier, more inclusive environments for all.
