Community Challenge Weekend (CCW)
Various organizations and communities are challenged on a daily basis — trying to obtain the resources they need to help people and further their cause. As we know, the unfortunate are also challenged — they often lead a life that not many can relate to and it's a challenge for them to receive the emotional, physical and financial help they need to get through the day.In 1999 the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) created its Community Challenge Weekend (CCW) to help those in need tackle their every day challenges. ALA encourages its chapters, its members, firms, vendors, relatives and friends to come together to contribute time, energy and resources toward improving their own communities.
A few of the Chapter's past CCW efforts have included a day spent assisting the following organizations:
- Mentoring Today — The group organized supply closets, supplies, washed windows, painted and detailed the van used for transporting mentors. After 3 hours the offices and the van were spic and span and ready for receiving/transporting mentors and clients.
- Suited for Change — Collected donations of clothing, shoes, purses, and jewelry; sorted/displayed them in the Suited for Change Boutique; prepared gift bags for the many women the boutique and their training programs serve each week; and shredded documents in the office.
- Through the Kitchen Door — Assembled new tables and shelving; inventoried the commercial kitchen equipment and catering supplies; organized their supplies; and packaged meals for 40 families participating in the Kitchen's first Family Fundraiser.
- Fort Dupont Ice Arena — Outdoor projects which included washing windows, weeding, mulching flower beds, planting flowers and shrubs, picking up trash from the parking lot, and sanitizing the helmets that are used by the Arena's Kids on Ice program.
