Salvation Army Angel Tree Program
The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program has touched the lives of needy children in Washington, DC since 1985. For many years the Chapter has partnered with the Salvation Army in their Angel Tree Program. During the holiday season, Chapter members, local law firms, and business partners "adopt" Angels and provide them with gifts that they might otherwise not receive. Here's a sample of the number of Angels adopted by the Chapter in prior years:
2010 — 2,710 AngelsTo put this in perspective, in 2010 the Salvation Army Angel Tree program helped approximately 6,300 of the neediest children living in Washington, DC. The Capital Chapter adopted 43% of those children and remains the Salvation Army's number one supporter of the Angel Tree Program.
2009 — 2,370 Angels
2008 — 2,561 Angels
2007 — 2,110 Angels
2006 — 1,510 Angels
Participation in the program is easy! Early in the holiday season Chapter volunteers, solicit member firms and business partners to adopt Angels. Volunteers are then provided with the names, ages, sex, and gift wishes of their Angels. The methods used for soliciting shoppers or collecting funds for purchasing the gifts for the Angels are as varied as the Angels themselves. From bake sales to chili cook-offs, Chapter firms and business partners get really creative with this program.
After the shopping is done and the gifts are tagged and bagged, they are delivered to the Salvation Army's distribution center. If your firm doesn't currently participate in this program, please consider doing so this holiday season.
