Seeking Silent Auction Donations forToni K. Allen Scholarship |
As the VPs of Community Services for the ALA Capital Chapter, a significant focus of our roles is to raise funds for the Toni K. Allen Scholarship, funded by the ALA Capital Chapter Foundation, as well as to interview and select winners of the scholarship. Every year, the Foundation awards a scholarship to a DC public school student who plans to attend college and who shows academic achievement, financial need, leadership ability, and engagement with the community. Since 1997, the ALACC Foundation, Chapter members, and Business Partners have raised funds for the scholarship and have served as mentors to the students. We are so grateful for the support that our Business Partners and Chapter members have already given to the scholarship this past year through raffle tickets and donation pledges. As a result of these efforts, we were able to award 2 scholarships to 2022 DC high school graduates—$10,000 to Khilil Biles who attends North Carolina A&T University and $5,000 to Shaina Adams who attends Harvard University. To raise funds for next year, we will host an in-person Silent Auction at our Annual Meeting and Holiday Luncheon planned for Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Ritz Carlton, 1150 22nd Street NW. In order to make the auction a success, we ask for your help with any donations of goods or services as auction items. Your donation can be something as simple as a gift card or tickets to a local sporting event, and any donations will be gratefully accepted. As a thank you for the support, donors and donor organizations will receive public acknowledgment of gifts during the event and in the Chapter’s newsletter and social media. If you are interested in donating to the Silent Auction, please fill out the attached form and coordinate pickup or drop-off of your donations with us by Tuesday, November 29, 2022. For more information/questions, please contact us. We thank you in advance for your support! Joanna Hurt
